Hello friends suddenly and unexpectedly faced with homeschooling!

From my friend Joy McCullough-Carranza

Hello friends suddenly and unexpectedly faced with homeschooling! Feel free to consider me a resource if you've got questions. Doing it suddenly and not by choice is very different from our situation, but I might still have thoughts and ideas. Here are a couple off the top of my head:
1) Be aware that a lot of school time is spent in classroom management. That means that it will not take your child 6 hours to do work for a day. When focused, they can probably complete it in like two hours. (More for middle school and up, though.) So don't worry that they're not doing *enough*.
2) The internet is your friend! Khan Academy in particular is GREAT for explaining math concepts, but if your kid doesn't respond to that style, YouTube is filled with more math instructional videos. There are loads more free online resources across subjects, so hit me up if you need suggestions.
3) Documentaries on Netflix/PBS are a great resource, as are many really fun educational podcasts geared toward kids. We love Wow in the World and Story Pirates in particular.
4) The wonderful children's author Kate Messner created this resource of content from authors reading from their work and giving writing lessons/prompts. https://www.katemessner.com/read-wonder-and-learn.../
Okay, that's all for now! Socially distant hugs to all!
