My 10-year-olds don't like to read. They love to listen to stories, especially fantasy stories. But they will not read on their own. This might be fine, if it weren't impacting their actual ability to read. Do I force it and risk making them hate reading even more? Do I let it go and accept that reading will never be pleasurable for them, risking poor grades and school performance? Wrapped up in this is my own deep and profound love of reading, and true inability to understand where they are coming from. It breaks my heart, so I'm not able to have perspective on it....
